SACRAMENTO, CA — California has launched a massive free travel pass scheme, giving families a golden opportunity to explore the state's rich heritage without spending a dime on entry fees.

In a major holiday announcement marking Juneteenth and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Governor Gavin Newsom revealed that California State Parks is giving away its coveted Historian Passport completely free of charge.

The pass, which normally commands a $50 fee, allows unlimited free entry for up to four people to more than 30 of the Golden State’s most fascinating historic parks, museums, and landmarks.

Bumper Access for California Families

The extraordinary giveaway is part of the state's ongoing Outdoors for All initiative, aimed at making California’s vast cultural and natural treasures accessible to everyone.

"We’re creating even more opportunities for Californians to explore the natural beauty and rich history that define our state," said First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom. "The free, special edition Historian Passport provides an incredible avenue for California families to immerse themselves in nature while gaining a deeper understanding of the remarkable place we’re proud to call home."

Holidaymakers and local families have from now until Monday, July 6 to claim the free digital pass. Once downloaded, the passport unlocks free, unlimited visits until the very end of 2026.
