• Panic-stricken holidaymakers are flocking to post offices and libraries for 'special' weekend events

  • No more mid-week office dashes: First-time travelers and families can now secure documents on SATURDAYS

  • Government blitz aims to slash waiting times ahead of the summer rush

The dream of sipping Aperol Spritz on the Amalfi Coast or lounging on a Mexican beach is finally within reach for thousands of Americans—but only if they act fast!

In a desperate bid to beat the summer travel crush, a wave of "Special Passport Acceptance Fairs" is sweeping across the United States this month. From the suburbs of New Jersey to the sunny hubs of California, government officials are opening their doors on evenings and weekends to help first-time travelers secure the "golden ticket" to international freedom.

For many, the dreaded trek to a government building during working hours has long been a barrier to that first overseas stamp. But for the month of May, the rules have changed.

NO APPOINTMENT? NO PROBLEM!

While some locations still require a digital booking, savvy travelers in places like Bradenton, Florida, and Dallas, Texas, can simply show up today, May 9, to get their applications processed.

The fairs are specifically designed for "newbies"—first-time applicants, children, and those who need to apply in person using the Form DS-11.

"It’s a game-changer," says one travel expert. "For families with kids in school and parents working 9-to-5, getting to a post office on a Tuesday morning is impossible. These Saturday events are a lifeline."

WHERE TO GO TODAY (SATURDAY, MAY 9)

If you're reading this over your morning coffee, you might still have time to grab your birth certificate and dash to one of these locations:

  • BRADENTON, FL: Bayshore Gardens Community Church (9am–1pm) – NO appointment needed!

  • DALLAS, TX: Dallas Passport Agency (9am–12pm) – NO appointment needed!

  • IRVINE, CA: UC Irvine (8am–4:30pm) – Appointment required.

  • SCOTTSDALE, AZ: Civic Center Library (10:30am–2:30pm) – Appointment required.

DON'T GET CAUGHT OUT!

Before you head out with your suitcases packed, experts warn of three golden rules to avoid a wasted trip:

  1. Check for Photos: Some locations, like the South Mountain Community Library in Phoenix, do not offer photo services. Get your mugshot taken at a pharmacy beforehand!

  2. Bring the Paperwork: You’ll need proof of citizenship (like a birth certificate) and a valid ID.

  3. Check the Clock: Many of these events end early in the afternoon—once the doors shut, the dream of that June getaway could vanish.

For those looking even further ahead, the government has already signaled that the fairs will continue into June, with events scheduled for Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Riverside, California.

Are you heading to a passport fair this weekend? Send us your photos and tell us where you're planning to fly!
